nbc 10 news starts now. right now on nbc 10 news today, a deadly hit and run in a busy section of philadelphia. what we've learned about the victim and the car police are trying to track down. plus a philadelphia mother arrested and accused of trying to join isis. the warning signs that investigators say began nearly two years ago. the first alert radar shows that showers are still lingering this morning. you see the green on your screen. we'll tell you when the skies will clear up in the forecast. good morning, this is nbc 10 news today. i'm rosemary connors. it's 5:00 on this saturday. meteorologist michelle grossman has the details on when the rain is going to move on out of here. good morning michelle. >> good morning, rosemary.

over the next couple of hours, by later this morning, we'll see mostly sunny skies. we do have the showers on radar right now. but that will be short lived. it will be windy. you can see the winds blowing on look at radar showing us that yes, showers are moving out but we're looking at showers in much of the area across radar right now. will be a few hours before they are completely out of here. temperatures, you see green on the map indicating milder air, 64 right now, in millville, 59 and allentown, 49 65 in atlantic city. winds out of southwest. 25 miles per hour in philadelphia. up to 18 miles per hour in dover. we'll see these numbers getting stronger as we head throughout the afternoon and winds gusting near 40 miles per hour. so for today, by 9:00 a mixture of sun and clouds 54 by noon. 54 also mostly sunny and mostly

sunny by 3:00. temperatures right near 56 degrees. clearing today we'll see windy and sunny conditions by this afternoon and we'll go over your easter forecast in just a bit. new this morning, philadelphia police are looking for the driver involved in a deadly hit and run. the victim was killed late last night on delaware avenue in the fishtown section of the city. nbc 10's jesse ea$e joins us live near the scene of that crash. jesse, tell us what you've learned. >> reporter: the scene has been cleared for some time now and the northbound lanes of north delaware avenue which had been closed, that closure has been removed. traffic is moving again freely. accident investigation officers say late last night, a man in his mid-20s was hit by the driver of an suv. the fatal collision happened in the 700 block of north delaware avenue near penn street. the unidentified victim was pronounced dead here at the scene. police are searching for the driver of the suv involved in the fatal accident. here's the problem. investigators do not have a make

or model of the vehicle. they're asking for the public's help. any information about in accident, you're asked to call philadelphia police. we'll check in with investigators, have an update at the bottom of the hour. live in fishtown jesse gary, nbc 10 news. also new this morning in philadelphia dozens of crews battled an overnight fire in the city's kensington neighborhood. the blaze broke out at this two-story bulling on east cam brie cambria street. one person was treated for smoke inhalation. no other injuries reported. no word on a cause of the fire. we are learning more about the philadelphia woman arrested after investigators say she tried to join the terror group isis. key on keonna thomas is peared edappeared in court yesterday.

she planned to leave her home on north tenth street and join isis in syria. the trip never happened. >> it's just a shame. you never know who you're living next to. >> thomas is being held without bail and is expected back in court on wednesday. she could face up to 15 years in prison. keonna thomas is not the first person from our area accused of trying to take part in a terror attack or join a terror group. jihad jane lived in montgomery county. she was sentenced last year to ten years in prison for plotting to kill a cartoonist who mocked the prophet muhammad. prosecutors say the plot included recruitment for overseas terrorists. in and 2007 six extremists trained for an attack at shooting ranges in the pocono mountains. all six were found guilty four of them are now serving life in

prison. now to a developing story out of louisiana. a police officer is being treated at a hospital after being wounded in a shootout. this happened last night in the town of slidell. that's about a half hour outside of new orleans. the officer was responding to a disturbance there when shots were fired. the suspect took off but was captured by a canine officer. the suspect was injured but police have not said if the injuries are from a gunshot wound or the dog. no word on the condition of the officer. funeral services will be held today for the off-duty officer killed inside his delaware county home. a viewing for darby borough police officer mark hudson will begin at 10:00 and funeral services will follow at st. joseph's church in collingdale. hudson worked as both a volunteer firefighter and a part-time police officer. according to police officer

hudson was off duty when he was shot to death with his own service gun. it happened inside of his house in glenolden last saturday. hudson's girlfriend, finch, is charged with his murder. police initially took finch into custody earlier this week for an alleged assault on hudson that happened last summer. philadelphia police say it was an argument between two men that led to a shooting in the middle of a neighborhood just steps away from a father and his young son. it happened last night in tacony. an 18-year-old was shot in the back and a 20-year-old in the shoulder. the men are in stable condition. the bystanders were not injured. police say they have already watched surveillance video of the shooting that clearly shows what happened. ♪ a local faith-based group came together in song and prayer last night to raise awareness about gun violence. heeding god's call rallied in the overbrook section of philadelphia to draw attention to the impact guns have on

families and neighborhoods. organizers held t-shirts and signs representing loved ones lost to gun violence. the group included local rabbis pastors and imams. they matched from landsdown avenue to a church on overbrook. the same neighborhood where three teenagers shot and killed james fullman last man while he was walking his dog. >> we gather to remember those who died in the past year in and around philadelphia. we are calling for an end to that violence. >> the group is also calling for an end to straw purchases. today is holy saturday on the christian calendar. it's the final day of lent and of holy week leading up to easter sunday. here's a live look over the cathedral basilica of saints peter and paul. the basilica is obviously closed right now. it will open at 9:00 this

morning. there will be no masses offered today, however later on this evening, an easter vigil mass will be celebrated at 8:00. yesterday christians marked good friday, the west kensington ministry at norris square observed the stations of the cross. artists presented different works representing the station which is refer to the events of the day when christians believe jesus was crucified. good friday is one of the holiest days of the christian calendar. she vanished nearly a decade ago. now the body of this south jersey woman has been found. we'll tell you what led police to her remains. caught on tape hundreds get caught up in a brawl at a new york city casino. what police think sparked this fight.

across the hour. they are moving out. we'll have sunshine later on this morning. here's a live look at radar. you can see the showers showing up on radar. right along i-95 if you're traveling in any part of these areas where you're seeing green. you're seeing light showers for the most part, pockets, heavier showers. it will be moving out of here over the next several hours. temperatures are mild right around 59 in philadelphia 65 in atlantic city 65 in dover. 48 degrees right now in allentown, 49 in lancaster and 39 in mt. pocono. the bigger to ary today, once these showers clear out, will be the wind. it will be windy as we head through the rest of the morning through the afternoon hours. winds gusting near 44 miles per hour in philadelphia up to 32 miles per hour in dover. up to 33 miles per hour in mt. pocono. no doubt you can hear the wind blowing around outside. we'll continue to see the wind blowing. by lunch time winds gusting to 30 miles an hour mt. pocono 31.

plan on the wind clearing and plan on some sunshine later on this afternoon. we'll come back with your easter forecast in just a few minutes. >> thanks, michelle. in new jersey state police have identified remains of a woman who vanished almost a decade ago. stacey grater disappeared in 2006 while riding her bike to the store. earlier this week hunters found her body in a wooden section of pemberton township. investigators are trying to figure out how she died. police hope that somebody will come forward with information. a former lower moreland high school teacher who admitted to having sex with a student has been sentenced to 30 days behind bars. erica ginnetti pleaded guilty confessing to have sex with a 17-year-old student on several occasions. ginnetti could have seen several years in prison. she's been sentenced to a month. she'll begin serving her sentence later on in the coming weeks.

in new york several people are under arrest after this massive brawl at resorts world casino. about 300 people were involved in the group fight last night. witnesses say that they were throwing punches and throwing chairs. officers ended up arresting three people. there were no serious injuries but the casino took on thousands of dollars in damage. investigators are looking into whether this fight was gang related. gay rights activists are planning to rally in indianapolis this weekend. it's in protest to indiana's controversial religious rights law which some argued could have allowed businesses to discriminate against the lgbt

community. lawmakers have since changed the legislation. gay rights advocates say they want to see a bill that specifically prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation orientation. the army private behind bars for leaking national security secrets has joined twitter. chelsea manning was known as bradley before she began transitioning to a woman while in prison she's serving 35 years for leaking classified documents to wikileaks. her first tweet went out yesterday afternoon and was quickly followed by seven more. she reads her tweets to a communications company and the company then posts them. tweeting from prison requires a lot of effort and using a phone to dictate, #90sproblems. the chief of staff to kathleen kane resigned from his post. blake rutherford announced it was his last day after only four months on the job.

kane released a statement says it's been a pleasure to have someone of blake's caliber serving the commonwealth as chief of staff at attorney general. the announcement comes three days after the state supreme court upheld the appointment of a special prosecutor who led a grand jury investigation into the leak of secret materials to the media. the grand jury is recommending charges of perjury and other offenses for kane. any action is now in the hands of montgomery county district attorney reeseisa furman. kane maintains she didn't break any law. people of the jewish faith are observing the eight-day festival of passover. it began at sundown. the black family from horsham held their 100th passover seder which commemorates the ancient

as you look outside, showers across the area they will be ending over the next couple of hours. we're actually looking at sunshine becoming sunny throughout the afternoon and also very windy. winds gusting to near 40 miles per hour later on this afternoon. a live look outside. we are looking at the flags blowing, winds gusting near 44 miles per hour in some spots. we're looking at rain falling into philadelphia. light stuff for the most part. we have pockets of heavier rain but we aren't looking at thunderstorms right now. the winds at 25 miles per hour that is sustain. we're seeing gusts higher than that. you notice green on the map that's indicating lighter showers, you see yellow, too, pockets of yellow. that's where we're seeing the more moderate rainfall. don't be surprised if you see or hear more moderate rainfall outside. this will move on. we'll see sunny skies later on this afternoon. again, it's dark outside. a live look, we're looking at clouds outside right now,

masters next weekend. the 39-year-old played in just 47 holes and 2 tournaments this season. did he take a break from competitive golf on february 11th to work on issues with his game. according to the baltimore sun, the nfl is set to hire sarah thomas as the league's first full-time official. she was an official in the college ranks last year. the nfl would not confirm the hiring saying the roster of officials is not yet complete. jamie moyer is retired from baseball after more than two decades in the big leagues. now he's relaxing and having fun. or at least trying to have fun. he tweeted this picture from his trip to disneyland where he was stuck on a roller coaster. it happened he added a kopgs saying not sure what's more difficult, pitching in a major league game or this. hopefully he's not afraid of heights. the time right now is 5:27.
